Refugio Pedasí Foundation

  • To transform the Pablo Barrios Wildlife Refuge into a national and international model protected area. We seek to preserve habitat to meet ecosystemic needs and to promote sustainable development through engagement with civil society, non-profit organizations, key community stakeholders and local and national government.

  • To conserve and manage the natural resources of the refuge, achieving a dynamic balance and ensuring the ecological integrity of the flora and fauna in perpetuity, with the organized involvement of the community.

  • 1.- Preserve the native species of the area, which are threatened or in danger of extinction (per IUCN classification), or those that are endemic.

    2.-To educate and train our communities and the general public on aspects of flora and fauna, environment and conservation of natural resources.

    3.- Offer non-destructive and generating tourism opportunities to the national and international public that visits the protected area.

    4.-To preserve in perpetuity the natural resources, genetic diversity, and ecological conditions of the Pablo Arturo Barrios Wildlife Refuge.

    5.- Ensure the continuous supply of water, in quality and quantity, for the inhabitants of the communities with influence in the protected area.

    6.- Educate and train the public and the community on environmental issues, forests, mangroves, dunes, wildlife refuge status, and non-destructive and profitable work methods.

    7.- Conduct research, monitoring and evaluation of flora, fauna, water and marine resources, in order to obtain information on the existence and conservation status of these (per IUCN classification).

    8.- The use of secondary products without altering the ecosystems present in the protected area.
